Krzysztof Wegrzyn was born in Gdansk, Poland. He began studying violin at a very young age with Zenon Brzewski and Irena Dubiska in Warsaw, Wolfgang Marschner in Freiburg and Yfrah Neaman in London. He was distinguished with many awards at outstanding international competition like Spohr, Montreal, Szymanowski and Lipize.

His artistic activity led him all around the world and he made various recordings for Radio, TV and CD. His wide repertoire includes work by Lutoslawski, Ligeti, Nono, Schnittke, Pärt and Penderecki. He was concert master of the Hanovra State Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra for many years, and since 1993 he is professor at the University of Music and Drama Hanover. Many of his students have won important international competitions and they are playing in the major orchestras in Germany.

Frequently his is invited to give masterclasses all over the world, including Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, Juilliard School, Aspen and Bowdoin Festivals, Keshett Eilon, Holland Music Sessions, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

He has been member in the juries of reputed violin and chamber music competition like Tchaikovsky/Moscow, Kreisler/Vienna, Paganini/Genova, ARD/Munich, among others. Furthermore, he is very active in the chamber music filed, for example Wegrzyn is the co-founder of the New Warsaw Piano Quintet. Between 1995 and 2007 he was the artistic director of the Gdansk Spring Music Festival in Poland.

Krzysztof Wegrzyn is the founder and artistic director of the Hanover International Violin Competition dedicated to Joseph Joachim.

In 2004 he received the State Music Prize of Lower Saxony.
